Dr. Lisa Wood, her sister Lezlee, her niece Eva - All immunized against Pertussis

Dr Lisa Wood, her sister LezLee, and her niece Eva ( all immunized against Pertussis).

Dr Lisa Wood shares her personal story to better educate parents and bring awareness to the dangers of Pertussis:

"When I was a Pediatric Resident, a three-week old baby boy was brought into the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).  He had been coughing since birth.  His mom had gone into labor early because she had been coughing so hard.  Even the grandparents had been coughing for a few months.  The baby boy was so sick he couldn't eat, he just slept all the time.  We had to place him on a ventilator to help him breathe and rest.  We started antibiotics and ran tests to find out why this baby was so weak and ill.  His Pertussis test came back positive.  He had been exposed to Pertussis shortly after birth from his family members that had been coughing for months.  They all had Pertussis, but noone knew it.  Despite trying to save this baby's life, he was too little and sick.  He died from his Pertussis infection three days after being admitted to the PICU.

Pertussis outbreaks are everywhere.  Including Morgantown, WV.  This baby's death could have been prevented.  There is a vaccine for pregnant/post-partum mom's, grandparents, and children!

Ask your pediatrician for more information! Help protect yourself and your children!"
