It is never fun when your child is sick. Unfortunately, there's no cure for the common cold. Antibiotics may be used to fight bacterial infections, but they have no effect on viruses, like RSV, flu, Cold, or COVID.
The best you can do is to make your child comfortable. Make sure your child gets extra rest and drinks water or other liquids. Our information sheets can answer many of your questions. Here are the top ones:
- How to Care for a fever, cold, RSV, Flu, COVID
- Even if your child has a fever after taking medication - that is OK! We are more concerned with how your child is acting - if they are able to take meds, drink fluids and appear alert - then their body is doing a great job of fighting the infection.
- Acetaminophen (Tylenol) / Ibuprofen (Motrin) Dosing Chart
- Antibiotics
- Constipation
- Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease
- RSV - Respiratory Syncytial Virus
Please keep in mind that we cannot prescribe medications via phone/text. We also are only able to provide school excuses for days that the child is seen in clinic or via telemed. Parent excuses should be sufficient for days until able to return to school.
